Hey readers
Not long to go now until Queer the Shelves in Nottingham. If you’re a queer bookworm (or just need any excuse to hang out with like-minded people), you’ve bagged the golden ticket. It’s been two years since the last event, and it’s been a busy time for me. I’ve published my second book, moved to the west coast of Ireland and got stuck into working on my next two books. I can’t wait to share the details with you.
Back to the event. First, the line-up. There are some top author Q&A sessions planned. I’m looking forward to sitting in a friendly, inclusive space, while some of my favourite authors talk about their writing process, their characters, and what keeps them up well into the night. It’s a unique opportunity to peek behind the curtain and see what makes creative minds tick. Author Q&As always leave me feeling inspired and full of useful tips and ideas for my own writing process.
But that’s not all I look forward to at Queer the Shelves. You get to hear excerpts from fresh-off-the-press novels, read by the authors themselves. There’s something truly unique about hearing a story in the voice of the person who dreamed it up. It’s like the words come to life in a whole new way.
And don’t forget to bring a bag (or three) because you’ll want to stock up on signed books for your TBR pile. I’ll be bringing copies of my debut, Sleepless Nights and my brand-new novel, Where the Waves Kiss the Shore. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of adding a signed copy to your collection. It’s like having a little piece of the author with you. And authors love the chance to meet their readers and personalise their books.
For me, the best part of these events is the chance to meet new readers and fellow authors. Writing can be such a solitary job; just you, your thoughts, and the—hopefully not for long—blank page. So, getting out and connecting with others who share your passion is incredibly energising. I love hearing about what readers think of my work and what they’ve been reading.
So, circle the date, folks! Queer the Shelves in Nottingham is going to be another great day, and I can’t wait to see you there.
