Wow, this isn’t a straightforward question to answer because I have so many.
Finishing my debut novel is absolutely one of my favourite memories. I was wracked with anxiety at the thought of publishing my words, but hell…I’d done it! Back then, I didn’t know anything about the writing process, and I quickly realised there was so much more to self-publishing than simply finishing the book. It took me months to learn the ropes, but I was determined.
Every step of my journey gives me fond memories. The first time I received a five star review was almost unbelievable. I mean, someone had read my book and loved it! Then there was the first time I had a reader reach out to me. I’ve made so many connections in our community, it makes my heart happy.
Getting the opportunity of speaking with fellow authors has been wonderful. Writing can be a lonely journey at times, and it’s a lot of work. Having other to talk to on a daily basis is fantastic, and I’m fortunate to make wonderful memories every day with authors I now get to call my friends.
So, as you can see, this question has many answers. I’m constantly experiencing new things that add to my happy memory bank. Although, there is possibly one memory that shines a little brighter than most. Finding my purpose in life.
I came to writing later than most. I didn’t know it was my passion until my wife pushed me to write the story I’d had floating around in my mind for a few years, but let me tell you. The moment I got into the flow and let myself believe I could actually write a book, my world opened up.
All through my adolescence, adulthood, I moved from job to job, never satisfied. Nothing grabbed me and kept my interest. I think I was seen as a bit of a flake by people who knew me, but I simply didn’t want to settle for less. I wanted to wake up every morning excited about the day ahead.
I remember vividly the day; I sat at my laptop writing, and it hit me. I was in my element! I loved what I was doing, and couldn’t wait to do it for the rest of my life. So, if I really had to choose just one memory, that would be it.
